Shoddy writing aside.is it entirely possible that the change in outlook/behavior on Guilliman's part is intentional? That he is not Guilliman in the true sense? Either from his newly jaded nature or how he was brought back perhaps it is not the Primaris that the story should be worried about.Yes, my army is through the modeling phase and on to painting.īut that doesn't mean I can't model a new unit, right?įor a few years now I have had a standing Deathwatch Kill Team that has never really seen combat beyond a skirmish with some Tyranids a couple years back. It would be very "alpha strike/assymetric" of them to forego flyers and skimmers like Stormtalons/Stormhawks or Land Speeders. I still intend on the build, but I think I will be making use of "standard" vehicles at least anyway in addition to the Repulsor. I myself hadve been considering building a Primaris only chapter such as the Rift Stalkers or Necropolis Hawks but have been having such a problem reconciling the concept with both playability and lore.īoth of those examples are Raven Guard successors (or Corax successors more appropriately) and it doesn't really work to toss out everything known and simply state that they are incapable of utilizing tech and equipment that would be known or analagous to the tactics and tenants of their primogenitor and his legion. I think what’s most likely is most of us SM players will add in a few Primaris units to bolster very specific niches but not many will ever choose a Primaris only force as it lacks big areas of firepower and flexibility. It’ll be interesting to see how well the Primaris kits are selling by next quarter as that will tell us whether every space marine player is adopting them or whether it’s been a bit of a misfiring dud. I hope the uproar if they do phase out established marines, vehicles and structures is so great they back off fast. Primaris as a vague concept moving the plot forward is fine by most os us, but the twists they had to put in the lore and attitudes of established characters to get there is just shoddy design and poor writing. Guilliman’s very definition is as the organiser and bureaucrat.īut then I guess we’ve all spent a lot of time in many threads pointing this out. Of all the Primarchs, having him make such blunders and strategically daft structures is the worst writing. That minor point aside, the Primaris only chapters, the Brotherhood Legion, The inflexible arrangement and poor compatibility I fully agree - this is a total slap in the face to what we know about Guilliman.

The Primaris should (according to their goody two shoes lore) be free from all these unstable urges and can be made into Primaris without any checks. He later insisted upon the practice in the Codex as he wanted to slow the induction of Astartes to several decades in order to weed out the psychologically unsuitable - having seen what happened when the World Eaters etc simply took any old psychopath and ascended them to Astartes in a couple of years. Scouts are understandably missing - few of the Pre Heresy Legions used scouts and Guilliman only focused on them as his Legion had a cultural history of advancing youth through military service (much like the Roman Empire).
